- The Reata Reunion
By June Naylor and Meda Kessler
Published by 360 West
April 2010Fred Hamilton remembers when Brian Olenjack hired him at Reata, Brian telling him it had been a rough night. Brian said that "during those early days, it was 16- to 17-hour workdays, seven days a week. Nobody expected how busy the restaurant was going to be, and we were exhausted every night. And then we would have to drink at the end of the night, too." The 2000 tornado hit Reata hard in its original location, the 35th floor of the Bank One Tower. By May 2002, Reata was again serving its trademark tenderloin tamales in the former Caravan of Dreams space in Sundance Square. To mark these occasions, we put out a call out for kitchen personnel who’ve spent long days and nights in Reata’s kitchens. Turn the page for our big reunion photo and a look at those personalities who have tickled your palate over the years.
